![]() Although the game hints that Annette should be classed as a mage, if I increase her lance skill level, I can reclass her as a soldier or a knight. This means that almost any character can change into any class as long as their weapon skill level is near or at the required level. Now instead of doing free battles, paralogues, and story maps, I can now raise my Support levels with my characters by dining, cooking, and drinking tea with them while I’m in the monastery instead of forcing my characters to fight next to each other.īesides increasing my Support levels in my free time, I can also increase my characters’ weapon skill level. These familiar mechanics are present in Three Houses.Ī new addition to Fire Emblem Three Houses is a school-like system similar to the Persona series. As for the characters, they each have their own skills and stats. Weapons usually include swords, lances, axes, bows, and magic and there’s not really a way to defend unless you strategically position the characters. The map is divided into invisible squares like a chess board and players will have to move each unit next to an enemy to attack. I love how the game slowly introduces each mechanic, so I never felt overwhelmed.įor the most part, Fire Emblem’s gameplay is like the traditional tactical strategy RPGs. ![]() I thought I would hate the slow introduction, but I didn’t. The gameplay was a nice mix of familiar and unfamiliar mechanics. Not only that, but the writers really thought about how a character’s history would affect how they interact with their surroundings and others. Each character has a compelling story that makes you want to get to know them. I never thought I would say this, but Fire Emblem Three Houses is one of the most well-written games I have played. In the end, the story was well thought-out and the character interactions were fantastic. But I’m sure I will feel the same way after I finish the Golden Deer and Black Eagle routes as well. With how well-developed each character is, I’m having difficulties trying to play the game with a different House because I miss my Blue Lion students so much and I feel like I’m betraying them. The voice acting elevated each and every scene and I may have cried at certain points in the game. Personally, I love that the entire game is voiced like Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. But although the game does try very hard to explain some of those minor details, the biggest unanswered question remains…What happened to Dimitri’s eye? Either I didn’t unlock a Support that discussed his injury or the writers just completely forgot about it. One that personally stood out was Ashe’s personal ability which hints to his former life before the main story. I also like how some minute details were not missed. But as I delved deeper into their story, I realized there was more depth to their character than meets the eye. Honestly, when news was first released about each character in their respective House, I thought I wouldn’t like Sylvain and Felix. Dorothea roping Felix into having tea? Mercedes calling out Sylvain’s intention when he suddenly wants to talk to her? I never knew I needed to see these interactions until they were unlocked. I didn’t know I needed to see Felix interact with Ashe and Annette almost as if they were siblings. I didn’t know I needed to see certain character interactions. I also genuinely love how each character interacted with each other. I’m positive that the other Houses have a wonderful story as well, but what stood out was how each character had a compelling story and developed over throughout the story. After selecting which House to instruct, the course of the war that engulfs Fódlan five years later changes.įor my play through of Fire Emblem Three Houses, I started with the Blue Lion House, and the story did not disappoint me. In Fire Emblem Three Houses, Byleth, the player, becomes a professor at the Officer’s Academy in the monastery after saving the heirs of the Adrestian Empire, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and the Leicester Alliance (Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude) from a bandit attack.
